What’s your most embarrassing song currently in your Playlist?
“Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba. In the car when that song shuffles on, the kids have a blast singing the line: “I get knocked down, but I get up again.” They have the whole song choreographed. I can neither confirm or deny there is an actual video of that.
Who is your favorite storyteller?
Radio geek that I am, I remember years ago airing Paul Harvey and “The Rest of the Story” on WKST in New Castle, Penn. Once when I was new at the station, I forgot to air the show at its scheduled time. The phones went crazy with people complaining. I wondered what all the fuss was about — until I actually listened to him. I was hooked. He was a master storyteller.
Most amazing encounter with someone in need?
One encounter was with a village elder in the bush of South Sudan, where I was gathering stories for a radio campaign. When I asked this man about the need in his village, he said “You want to know how hungry and sick we are? Let me take you to the tombs of two of my children.” That was yet another reminder that what we do at i58:10 Media makes a difference.
Why do you do what you do for i58:10 Media?
If you want more of Jesus, you go where Jesus is. By helping poor, broken and hurting people, I feel like I get to hang with Jesus.
Describe your family?
My wife Barbara and I have five daughters. I need a “man cave.”
